Safe Turkey Thawing Guidelines

Refrigerator Method (Recommended)

  • Allow approximately 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds

Cold Water Method (Faster)

  • Allow 30 minutes per pound
  • Submerge in cold water
  • Change water every 30 minutes
  • Cook immediately after thawing

  • Never thaw turkey at room temperature
  • Keep refrigerator at 40°F or below
  • Use within 4 days of refrigerator thawing
