The US Navy body fat calculator uses circumference measurements to estimate body fat percentage. This method is widely used in the military and provides a reasonable estimate without requiring specialized equipment.
How to Measure
- Neck: Measure at the narrowest point, typically just below the larynx
- Waist: Measure at naval level in a relaxed position
- Hips (women only): Measure at the widest point of the buttocks
Body Fat Categories
For men:
- Essential fat: 2-5%
- Athletes: 6-13%
- Fitness: 14-17%
- Acceptable: 18-24%
- Obesity: 25% or higher
For women:
- Essential fat: 10-13%
- Athletes: 14-20%
- Fitness: 21-24%
- Acceptable: 25-31%
- Obesity: 32% or higher
