Understanding Standard Form
Standard form, also known as scientific notation, is a way to write very large or very small numbers in a more manageable format. It expresses numbers as a coefficient (between 1 and 10) multiplied by 10 raised to a power.
How to Read Standard Form
A number in standard form looks like this: a × 10ⁿ, where:
- a is a number between 1 and 10
- n is a whole number (positive or negative)
Example:
25,970,000 = 2.597 × 10⁷
0.00000659 = 6.59 × 10⁻⁶
