Board exposure is the visible portion of each siding board after installation. For optimal water protection, boards typically overlap by 1-1.5 inches. The exposure affects both aesthetics and the number of boards needed.
Measure the total wall height and width, then subtract door and window areas. Add 10% for waste and cuts. For gable ends, calculate the triangle area separately using: (width × peak height) ÷ 2.
