Understanding Series Resistance
What is Series Resistance?
In a series circuit, resistors are connected end-to-end, forming a single path for current flow. The total resistance in a series circuit is the sum of all individual resistor values.
Formula
RTotal = R1 + R2 + R3 + ... + Rn
Key Properties
- The same current flows through each resistor
- The voltage drop across each resistor adds up to the total voltage
- Total resistance is always greater than the largest individual resistance
- Removing any resistor breaks the entire circuit
