Engine Horsepower Calculator
Understanding Engine Horsepower
What is Horsepower?
Horsepower (HP) is a unit of measurement that quantifies the power output of an engine. One horsepower equals 33,000 foot-pounds of work per minute, a standard established by engineer James Watt in the late 18th century.
Calculation Methods
This calculator offers three methods to estimate engine horsepower:
- Elapsed Time Method: Uses quarter-mile time and vehicle weight
- Trap Speed Method: Uses quarter-mile speed and vehicle weight
- RPM & Torque Method: Uses engine RPM and torque measurements
