Understanding UK and US MPG Differences
UK MPG (Imperial)
UK MPG uses the Imperial gallon (4.54609 liters) as its base unit. This larger gallon size results in higher MPG readings compared to US measurements.
US MPG
US MPG uses the US gallon (3.78541 liters), making it about 20% smaller than the Imperial gallon. This results in lower MPG readings for the same fuel efficiency.
Conversion Factor
To convert from UK to US MPG, multiply by 0.832674. This accounts for the difference between Imperial and US gallon sizes.
