About Concrete Block Construction
Standard Block Sizes
The most common concrete block size is 8" × 8" × 16", which provides excellent stability and is easy to work with. Each standard block covers approximately 0.89 square feet of wall area when accounting for mortar joints.
Mortar Requirements
For every 100 blocks, you'll typically need about 3-4 bags of mortar mix. The exact amount depends on joint thickness and block size. We recommend adding 10% extra for waste and varying joint sizes.
Professional Tips
Always order 5-10% extra blocks to account for cuts and breakage. Maintain consistent 3/8" mortar joints for optimal strength. Check local building codes for requirements regarding reinforcement and foundation specifications.
