Understanding the Air Force PT Test

The Air Force Physical Fitness Test (PT Test) is a comprehensive assessment of military fitness that evaluates three key components: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular fitness, and body composition. The test is designed to ensure that Airmen maintain the physical capability necessary for military service.

Test Components and Scoring

The test consists of three mandatory events:

  • Cardio (60 points): Choice between 1.5-mile run or 20m HAMR shuttle run
  • Upper Body Strength (20 points): Choice between 1-minute push-ups or 2-minute hand release push-ups
  • Core Strength (20 points): Choice between sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunches, or forearm plank

Fitness Categories

Based on your total score, you'll be placed in one of these categories:

  • Excellent: 90 points or higher
  • Satisfactory: 75-89.9 points
  • Unsatisfactory: Below 75 points
